Dozens of American companies are placing substantial bets on a new age of advanced nuclear power generation in North America. Sparked by interest in curbing carbon emission and providing low cost alternatives to fracking and encouraged by new innovations in nuclear fusion, more than 40 private companies have invested millions in advanced nuclear reactors that are said to be safer, more efficient, and ecofriendly.
“The reactors, which could come into development in 10 to 15 years, can help curb U.S. carbon emissions and make investments in electricity generation less costly, researchers at Washington, D.C.-based Third Way said in a report seen by Reuters and to be released as soon as Monday. Companies expressing faith in advanced nuclear power range from Lockheed Martin, the Pentagon’s largest supplier, to Holtec International, which is building a $260 million technology campus in economically depressed Camden, New Jersey.”
Do you think nuclear is the right direction for U.S. energy updates? How will the substantial investment speed the development of the new reactors and further advances in energy generation? Will these investments have an impact on your industry?
